VASHON ISLAND — As a talent agent working outside of Seattle, Jamie Lopez understands what it means to be busy.
“My life is telephone and email,” said Lopez, who lives on Vashon Island with his wife and two young children. “I’ve run my own business for a long time out of my house. Once kids entered the picture, things got hairy.”
For the past five years, Lopez has worked from home, balancing his time at his home office with the needs of his children. “I think I’ve replaced my MacBook three times,” he said. “I can’t tell you how many times I was juggling that thing, with the phone at my ear and chasing my kids around the house.”
His wife, a researcher at the University of Washington and the Pacific Institute, also works at home three days a week. Lopez contemplated the idea of purchasing a Modern-Shed for years, in search of a place he could find some privacy to do his work.
Coastal Backyard Office
“I’ve always been interested in pre-fab,” he said. “It’s always appealed to me. But I don’t know anything about architecture. I wanted something you could just plug and play.” Read more ›
When Anne Martin first laid eyes on a Modern-Shed Backyard Office, she fell in love.
She wasn’t expecting to. Her partner, Karen Stephens, had been trying to convince her for many years that it was time for Martin to move her business out of its expensive space on Wallingford Avenue in Seattle and into a new, pre-fabricated Modern-Shed Backyard Office.
Martin has been an aesthetician since 1986, providing facials and age-related skin care regimens to a steady stream of clients that hear about her business (Anne Martin Skin Care) mostly through word-of-mouth.
For the past 11 years, she worked out of a space she adored and resisted the idea of moving.
That is, until one of her clients invited her to see their new Modern-Shed. Read more ›
Wanting a quiet place to work from home our client hired us to build this beautiful Modular 10×12 North Vancouver Backyard Editing Studio.
The biggest challenge for us was the location. The client wanted the building in the far south-west corner of the property nearly 112 feet from the from front curb.
Time to bring out the big guns. In this case, it was a 200 Ton Liebherr Mobile crane from RMK Cranes. With a reach of over 200 feet, this crane made easy work of the lift and once rigged up it was in the backyard in minutes.
When you take into consideration the cost to truck crews and materials across town day after day to the job site Modular Construction is definitely the way to go. It’s far more affordable for ourselves and our clients to build our building offsite in our North Vancouver Factory.
Once complete we truck the building to the site and crane it into place or deliver it with our special delivery trailer. Our Lifestyle Outbuildings are also CSA-A277 Factory Building Certified which takes care of all the typical Building Inspections but does it in our factory rather than onsite.
And one of the best things about modular construction…. you don’t have construction crews traipsing through your yard day after day for a couple of weeks.
Our client is a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) and she came a came to us looking for a change. After years of renting a downtown office space to run here massage practice, she wanted to cut the monthly RENT and start working out of her backyard. And save the daily commute from North Vancouver to Downtown Vancouver.
This project was a FIRST for us.
Up until now we’ve either Craned our buildings into place or positioned them from our special delivery trailer. The challenge with this site is that the backyard was nearly 28″ above ground level in the lane and powerline overhead so a crane or delivery trailer was out of the question. Read more ›
Sticks Building Products: Maple Ridge Modular Office
For Immediate Release:
North Vancouver BC Canada
July 7, 2014
Westcoast Outbuildings is pleased to announce it’s just signed on to build a 10′ x 24′ Modular Office for Sticks Building Products of North Vancouver BC.
Sticks is relocating their Materials Yard to Maple Ridge BC in the fall of 2014. As part of that relocation they need a Portable Office Buildings.
Sticks went to BC’s largest Modular Building builder but they were unable to supply the right style of building in the timeline required. They couldn’t meet our client’s needs. Ultimately a “Construction Trailer” would not meet the design standards for the Kanaka Business Park.
Sticks Building Products: Maple Ridge Modular Office
Sticks President Kevin Bradshaw contacted us and in less than 48hrs Westcoast Outbuildings created concept drawings and had them approved by the business parks architect. Now we are working to obtain the required Building Permits to proceed with the development.
Our clients moved into their East Vancouver Heritage House just one day before our installation started.
With a new house and a brand new baby in the family they called Westcoast Outbuildings they were in desperate need for a Backyard Office / Backyard Music Studio to provide some quite space to work.
We provide them with a custom designed 8’x12’ Modern Shed complete with power, lighting and internet hookups. We love the juxtaposition of the New Modern Shed against the lines of the Heritage House.
