When Anne Martin first laid eyes on a Modern-Shed Backyard Office, she fell in love.

She wasn’t expecting to. Her partner, Karen Stephens, had been trying to convince her for many years that it was time for Martin to move her business out of its expensive space on Wallingford Avenue in Seattle and into a new, pre-fabricated Modern-Shed Backyard Office.

Martin has been an aesthetician since 1986, providing facials and age-related skin care regimens to a steady stream of clients that hear about her business (Anne Martin Skin Care) mostly through word-of-mouth.

For the past 11 years, she worked out of a space she adored and resisted the idea of moving.

Studio Shed: After retiring from a world of crunching numbers for more than 30 years, Virginia Violin decided to devote more of her life to color.

Ever the artist, Virginia has always occupied her hands with some craft — sculpting, knitting, needlepoint and weaving have all been passions of hers at one point or another.

But it wasn’t until she retired from a career in accounting (she’s worked in the oil and telecom industries, and most recently was an accountant for the literary nonprofit Seattle Arts & Lectures) that she decided to get serious about her art.

Modern-Shed Dwelling: Texas Style

The following interview is with Heidi Brunet the builder of the first Modern-Shed Dwelling. The Modern-Shed Dwelling, is a pre-fab, home-built by Modern-Shed. Modern-Shed recently launched its “Dwelling” line, which is an extension from its pre-fab “room” specialty. Heidi’s home is a full-sized family style home, and is being built in Dallas, Texas.

Q: How is the building process going thus far with your Modern-Shed Dwelling? There has been tremendous progress in the past couple of weeks – the foundation was poured, floors were installed, walls were built, and most recently the roof was added. Is the process as fast as you thought it would be? Have you come across any hiccups this early on in the process?

A: No. The entire shell of the house went up in 3 days with very basic tools. It was faster than I anticipated. Next week we will frame the internal walls in the house, assemble the carport, rough in electrical wiring throughout the house, install the fireplace and start putting up siding.
