Tough-Structures: Cabin
As time goes on we are starting to love working on Recreational Property projects. One like our Mayne Island Modular Cabin or the recent delivery of our Demo Shed to Saturna Island.
There is simply something magical about jumping on a BC Ferry and and heading out to the Gulf Islands. So quick to get there (45 min by ferry) yet a world away once you’re there.
Our most recent project was a Modern / Rustic cabin for a client on Galiano Island.

We were contacted this fall by a client looking to build a small cabin on his property on Galiano Island. The property consisted of a little over 4 acres of forest and rolling hills with a lovely building site set above the valley.
The client wanted something, simple, modern yet a bit rustic and finding that balance was a real challenge but I think we did it. The result was a beautiful 10′ wide x 24′ long Coastal Cabin with a 120 sq/ft indoor living space and 120 sq/ft outdoor living space.
Some of you may have been following the recent sale we had for our Tradeshow Demo Unit.
Due to some changes in our business model we decided it was time to part ways with this beauty and pass her down to someone who could get more use out of it than we currently were.
[Not a valid template]Once the high bidder was selected it was time to start figuring out how to get this building to it’s new home on the Southern Shores of Saturna Island.
Mayne Island is a rustic 21-square-kilometre (8.1 sq mi) island in the southern Gulf Islands chain of British Columbia. It is situated midway between the Lower Mainland of BC and Vancouver Island, and has a population of around nine hundred.
Our client contacted Westcoast Outbuildings to Design, Fabricate, Deliver and Install this cute sleep cabin on his 20 acre property on Mayne Island.
In the fall of 2013 we were contacted by The Dharma Fellowship of His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa who maintains a Hermitage for meditation and spiritual practice on Denman Island, one of the small gulf islands that lie off the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada.
Founded in 2005, the Hermitage provides simple facilities for those seeking spiritual renewal, for inner peace and self-realization, within a serene Buddhist setting. Still very new, and with no funding other than what comes from dedicated members, the property is very much in an early stage of development; nevertheless events, meditation retreats, teaching sessions, the participation of Lamas and teachers, and the growth of a definite spiritual presence, has already begun to emerge.
Our client decided it was time to clean up the backyard of this East Vancouver Heritage House. The answer for esthetics and storage requirements was our 8′ x 12′ Tough-Structures Backyard Cabin complete with 4′ front Covered Porch.
In this case the client opted to complete the site preparation themselves. Westcoast Outbuildings rolled up with a completed Modular Backyard Cabin and placed it on site in about 30 minutes. Talk about instant storage space!
